Roborovski Dwarf Hamster funny, agile cute. They can also be cuddly, comical, clever, cute, and make fun pets. They are generally gentle and rarely nip but they are very fast and agile which makes handling them difficult.
Size: Roborovski hamster, also known as desert hamster or Robo, is the smallest of three species of hamster in the genus Phodopus, averaging under 2 centimetres at birth and 4.5–5 centimetres and 20–25 grams during adulthood.
Temperament & Personality: hamsters are nocturnal so they usually wake at dusk and are active at night. They are gentle and rarely nip but they are very fast and agile which makes handling them difficult.
Activity Requirements: Toys are important for the health of your hamsters. Offer toys for digging, crawling and running. A wheel is a necessity. Your robo will need a proper cage, water bottle, exercise wheel, safe and comfortable bedding, hamster food mix, hiding place, chew toys, hamster ball, bathing sand and bath house, Food dish, hamster treats.
Grooming Requirements and Housing: Wire-top hamster cages are made up of a plastic bottom tray and a wire-based top. Wire-top cages usually come in 0.5 inches (12 mm) or 0.3 inches (8 mm) gaps between the bars. For dwarf hamsters, a cage with 0.3 inches gaps. Their teeth are continually growing, so they need a supply of chewable items to keep those teeth in good condition. Chewing plastic can lead to health issue. Choose chewable toys specifically created for you pet hamster. Your Roborovski hamster must have an especially secure cage with narrow bar spacing (1/4 inch) so it can’t escape. A wire cage with a plastic bottom is ideal.
Diet: Provide commercial mixes that are balanced properly for hamsters. Offer small amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables to your hamster once or twice a week. Avoid items high in water content, such as most fruits. If you feed fresh food, then clear out their food dish daily to avoid rotting and bugs. You should provide water, preferably via a bottle.
Colors: Agouti, is the normal color for robos and is a very light brown/beige color with gray roots. Some would also describe this as sandy. Agouti robo dwarf hamsters have cute “white eyebrows” and no dorsal stripe. White-face, robo dwarf hamster looks similar to the agouti one except its entire face is white. You’ll sometimes find a white-face robo hamster referred to as a “husky”.
History: Dwarf Roborovski Hamster was first discovered in July 1894 by Lt Roborosky in Nan Shan. It does not appear to have been kept in captivity until the 1970s when it was kept in the USSR, notably by Moscow Zoo.
